Inspiration stems from what we experience ourselves, from our personal fee for our own products. Trying them out ourselves inspires us to improve them even further. But other kinds of sport can be an inspiration too. We can gain new ideas from things like golf, mountaineering and biking. Then we transform them into the language of design for our skiwear. But the most significant impuilses come from fashion itself. We meticulously follow its trends. We keen an eye on our young designers. What they do, what makes them tick. Young people look at things from a different point of view, develop their own shaping ideas and cross the limits of convention. That's very exciting.
We look for perfection in reduction. No glitery, shiny appearnce. We prefer the clean look. Highly technical functionality. But implemented in an attractive, fashionable way. And always different to all the rest. The Spirit of Skiing is also an expression of personal attitude, of a way of life. There is no need to feel associated with any particual “scene”. But you have to be true to yourself. Your own standards are all that matter.
“Freedom of movement
is more than just being able to move”
We have considered that traveling on skis
is movement. The more movement one has,
the better one can ski. So skiwear has to
offer as much freedom as possible. Otherwise
it is not functional.
Normal skiwear is usually either comfortable
and warm, or light and allows movement.
Kjus is not either/or, but both/and. Using
high-tech fabrics and innovative processes
we reconcile the conflicts. Microfiber with
added stretch, innovative membrane materials
and inner linings with proactive temperature
adjustment, allow us to make light jackets
which offer maximum freedom of movement
and maximum comfort in wear. Whether you
ski in temperatures of minus twenty degrees
or in the spring sunshine, whether carving
on the piste or free-skiing in deep powder,
it is all much more fun with Kjus…thanks
to the well-thought-out-functionality which
you may feel, but will barely notice.
A bit on Lasse Kjus himself:
“You would think that an X-times World
Champion, World Cup and Olympic winner would
have the best equipment. There you would
be wrong. I either nearly froze my backside
in skin-thin racing clothes or was trapped
in thickly padded jackets and pants. I could
hardly move, but least I was warm. I was
convinced that there must be skiwear which
could offer the maximum freedom of movement
and comfort at the same time. However there
was none to be found, so I developed my
own skiwear.
I have completed in ski races since I was
eight years old. I have attained a great
deal since then and learnt something too:
if you want to win, you must not compromise
on anything. I remain true to this saying.
Even with my skiwear. I almost drive the
designers mad with my perfectionism. But
I want 100% freedom of movement and 100%
comfort. I am not satisfied with less. The
same applies to jacket and pants: if the
K is on it, I am behind it. You will never
find a better test driver than me.”
